What “No Credit Check” Actually Means, and When It Should Worry You

A padlock, representing an application with no hard credit check

"No credit check" appears on almost every product aimed at people rebuilding credit. It is a genuine feature. It is also doing a lot of work in some adverts, so it is worth knowing precisely what it claims.

What It Means

No hard inquiry. A hard inquiry is recorded on your report when a lender checks your file for a credit decision. Several in a short window can shave points, and they stay visible for two years.

"No credit check" normally means the company will not run one, so applying costs you nothing on your report. For someone rebuilding, that matters — being declined repeatedly is expensive in a way that is easy to overlook.

What It Does Not Mean

It does not mean no identity verification. Any legitimate company reporting an account in your name has to establish that you are you. That is not a credit check; it is a legal requirement, and a company that skips it entirely is a company that can report an account to the wrong person.

It does not mean no obligation. A product with no credit check can still be reported, and can still be reported as missed.

It does not mean the product is good. It is a statement about the application, not about the price, the terms, or whether it does anything useful.

When It Should Worry You

Be careful when "no credit check" appears next to:

  • A promise about your score. No credit check is a fact about the application. A score promise is a claim nobody can support. The two together suggest the first is being used to make the second feel plausible.
  • Urgency. Deadlines on a product that has no underwriting are manufactured.
  • A large up-front fee. If nothing is being checked, ask what the fee is paying for.
  • Vagueness about which bureaus receive the data. That is a factual question with a factual answer. A company that will not answer it plainly is telling you something.

Where We Land on Our Own List

Feodis.co runs no credit check, so it is fair to hold us against the four warnings above. We make no promise about your score — we have written a separate piece on why. There is no deadline on anything we sell. There is no up-front fee at all, only the monthly one, from $7.99. And on the last point: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion, all three, named rather than gestured at.

We verify your identity, because reporting an account in your name to three bureaus without establishing that you are you would be reporting it to the wrong person.

The Reasonable Version

"No credit check, no hard pull, no minimum score" is a fair description of an application that will not reject you and will not cost you points to attempt. Treat it as removing a barrier, not as evidence the product behind it is worth buying — that is a separate question, and the answer is in the pricing and the terms.
